Are You a Pencil for Christ?

Are You a Pencil for Christ?

Man a Pencil: A Subject for Christ.

Are You a Pencil for Christ?

There is this CEO of a pencil-producing company. One day, after the pencils had been produced and were about to be sent out to the market, he called all the pencils together and began to speak.

He said: "Listen, my products, my pencils. As you are going out into the world, fulfil your purpose. Be useful. And for this to become a reality, here are my five little pieces of advice that ought to be adhered to and never compromised.

1. For you to be a better pencil, you will go through a painful sharpening before you can be used. The painful sharpening can be done by a pencil sharpener, cutlasses, blades, chisels, and so on.

2. The most important part of you is that which is on your inside. The graphite material in you ,the middle part, is the important thing in you.

3. For you to be a better pencil, you have to allow yourself to be used by someone. Users can range from children to adults, carpenters, engineers, and so on.

4. You should be able to leave a mark on every surface that you walk on or tread upon, to be a better pencil. These surfaces could be plastics, metals, papers, woods, fibres, and so on.

5. Never be afraid to make a mistake. For that reason, you have an eraser on your head to correct all the mistakes that you might make. An eraser (rubber) should be able to clean a pencil mark, unless that mark wasn't made by a pencil."

For better understanding, consider

The Pencil : The Believer. You.

The CEO (maker) : God, our Creator.

Painful sharpening : Trials, discipline, sanctification (Hebrews 12:11).

The graphite inside : The Holy Spirit and inner character (1 Samuel 16:7).

Being used by someone : Yielding to God's purpose (2 Timothy 2:21).

Leaving a mark : Influence, witness, good works (Matthew 5:16).

The eraser : Grace, forgiveness, restoration (1 John 1:9).

The sharpening reminds us that God allows pressure and pain to make us useful. A dull pencil writes nothing. A sharpened pencil may lose wood, but it gains purpose.

The graphite inside teaches us that what matters most is not the outer wood, our appearance, possessions, or titles but the inner life. God looks at the heart.

Being used means surrendering our will. A pencil that refuses to be held is useless. We must allow the Master's hand to guide us.

Leaving a mark is our calling. Wherever God places us, in offices, homes, schools, marketplaces, we are to write something meaningful. Not graffiti of selfishness, but the handwriting of grace.

The eraser is the gift of second chances. Mistakes are not final for the one who walks with Christ. But note the caution: the eraser only works on pencil marks. Some marks, the consequences of hardened sin, are not so easily erased. Yet even there, God's mercy is deeper than our failures.

Closing word from the CEO:"Remember, you are not just wood and graphite. You are a pencil, made with purpose, sent with love, and capable of leaving a mark that matters. Now go. Write well."

Prayer for October.

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for creating us with purpose. Help us to embrace the sharpening seasons of life, knowing that You are making us useful for Your Kingdom. May we not neglect our inner life, but cultivate a heart that pleases You.

We surrender ourselves to Your hand. Use us as You will, in big ways and small ways. Help us to leave a mark of Your love and grace wherever You place us. And when we make mistakes, remind us of Your eraser of grace. Forgive us, restore us, and help us to write more carefully.

Amen.

God bless you and see you through October.
